 David Sedaris

David Sedaris is an American humorist, writer, comedian, bestselling author, and radio contributor. Although born in Binghamton, New York, Sedaris grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. He moved to Chicago in 1983 and graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1987. He gained nationwide recognition in 1992 for his National Public Radio broadcast of "SantaLand Diaries." SantaLand Diaries was a personal account of Sedaris's work as a Macy's elf during the Christmas season.

SantaLand Diaries was a major success with radio listeners and the New York Times labeled Sedaris "a minor phenomenon." Sedaris started recording a monthly segment for National Public Radio based on entries in his diary shortly after. In 1994, Sedaris published his book of stories and essays titled Barrel Fever. After the success of Barrel Fever, Sedaris released Naked, Holiday on Ice, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames. All of these have become New York Times Best Sellers.

As of 2008, his published books have collectively sold seven million copies. His humor is based on his self-deprecating experiences, based on his family life, middle class upbringing, education, various jobs, homosexuality, Greek heritage, drug use, and his life in France with his partner, Hugh Hamrick. Don't miss the chance to see David Sedaris when he visits the Historic State Theatre!
